Discussions now taking place across all tags on Stack Overflow

Expanding the experiment to create the space for developers to have meaningful conversations about their favorite technologies.

In August 2023, Prashanth Chandrasekar, CEO of Stack Overflow, announced Discussions at the WeAreDevelopers event. Discussions is a dedicated space for the developer community to dive into meaningful dialogue and exchange perspectives on specific technical subjects.

Discussions lets developers of all skill levels have opinion-based conversations and share their own insights. Discussions is different than the conversation traditionally suited for the Stack Overflow Q&A platform and creates a new venue and opportunity for subjective conversations.

Discussions has now expanded beyond Collectives™ on Stack Overflow to all technical topics on Stack Overflow.

Why do this?

We know that when developers learn something new or formalize a direction for a project, they often turn to other developers and the technical community to seek their advice and guidance.

This expanded experiment creates space for a new type of conversation on Stack Overflow so developers can learn or share a new perspective outside of the traditional question-and-answer space.

Discussions provides a way for developers to tap into the collective knowledge of the Stack Overflow community. Here, developers can explore technical approaches, share different perspectives, and make more informed technical decisions.

How to get started?
