Stack Overflow has always been a place to learn about the latest technology, languages, and frameworks. As tech has evolved, so have our platform and resources. This year, we have new updates to help you succeed in the classroom, no matter what tech you’re learning about. Whether you’re tackling assignments, studying for quizzes, or just looking to connect with experienced developers, we have the tools you need to succeed in 2026.
Find immediate answers with AI Assist
We’ve launched AI Assist on Stack Overflow, a new way to find and understand answers on stackoverflow.com. Need to get a powerset from Python but not sure how? Looking for a way to search through your entire Vim command history? Ask AI Assist. And if you still need help or want to further explore technical topics after using this AI-powered, conversational search and discovery tool, there’s a convenient path to ask a question to the Stack Overflow community.
Just getting started? Join a chat room
A hidden gem on Stack Overflow, Chat is a place that the most active community members go for deeper collaboration and connection. We’ve made this tool accessible to all users, no matter if you’re new to Stack Overflow or have been here since the very beginning. New this school year is the Stack Overflow Lobby, a dedicated chat room for beginners and an updated landing page on Stack Overflow to help you discover other interesting and relevant chat rooms. Join Chat to get real-time advice on your projects, deep dive with experienced developers on subjects you’re passionate about, and build relationships with peers learning how to code from all over the world.
Better commenting for better learning
Comments have always been a place for our community to build on each other’s knowledge, often diving deeper into an answer or adding more context to a question. We have launched a new interface for comments and introduced threading to keep conversations organized, opening up commenting so that everyone in the community can join the conversation. Need just a bit more information on an accepted answer? Add a comment on a post and let the community help you learn!
Showcase your skills and level up with Coding Challenges
Researchers have found that one of the best ways to retain information you’re learning is to “exercise those muscles” by practicing your new skills. This summer, we launched Coding Challenges, a fun and community-focused way for you to apply your skills. These unique prompts give you a place to code creatively, think outside the box, and practice your coding in a low-stakes environment. Challenges are posted regularly, so go join in on the fun. And, if you have an idea for a challenge, you can post it as an entry in the Sandbox. It could be selected as the next Coding Challenge by our team!
