Companies Hiring Data Scientists Right Now

One of our Data Scientists at Stack Overflow, Julia Silge, recently wrote a post about things to know if you want to transition into a career in data science. A lot of you read that post, and no wonder! Demand and compensation for data scientists is only going up.

So today I wanted to highlight some of the companies currently hiring data scientists. They range from media companies to finance to tech; nearly every industry you can think of is turning to data science and machine learning for solutions, and they need experts to help them. Many are offering salaries over $100k. Here are a few.

Bechtel Corporate – Houston, TX

Senior Data Scientist

This senior-level role comes with paid relocation and a salary range of $160k-$200k and requires a Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, or another data-rich technical field. Programming proficiency in Python, R, Java, and Scala are also required. Bechtel Corporation is a global engineering, construction, and project management company with over 10,000 employees across 160 countries. This position will be located in their Houston, TX office. Buzzfeed – Los Angeles, CA

Data Scientist

Media giant Buzzfeed is looking for “extraordinary data scientists” to join their teams in New York and Los Angeles. They will pay to relocate you, and they’re looking for 5+ years of industry experience working on data-related initiatives; it’s a plus if that experience is in social data and media. EdgeRock Technology Partners – New York, NY

Senior Data Engineer

With a salary range of $140k-$180k, this role is a senior-level permanent position in the Financial Technologies industry. EdgeRock is looking for somebody with 5 years of experience in “top-tier firms,” 4 years’ experience with machine learning and SQL, and experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, R, Java). IHeartRadio – New York, NY

Director, Data Engineering

IHeartRadio, as you probably know, is a streaming and live digital radio service. They’ve worked with some of the world’s biggest music legends, and they’re looking for someone passionate about data who can provide day-to-day management and strategic direction for the Data Engineering team. FindHotel – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Senior Data Scientist

FindHotel is a hotel booking marketplace that serves over 3 million customers per month in 70 countries. They’ve evolved their product from a “search” to a “recommendation” platform with the help of, you guessed it, data. Now they’re looking for a skilled Data Scientist with a strong background in machine learning, statistics, and programming to help lead a variety of projects related to improving their product and automating decision making in core business processes. The New York Times – New York, NY

Engineering Manager, Data Engineering

Work at one of the world’s leading news organizations as an Engineering Manager for the New York Times. This is another managerial role, where you will lead a number of small engineering teams in processing and managing the Times’s data. 8+ years of experience using Python and Java, as well as 4+ years of managerial experience, are required for this position which carries a salary of $145k-$165k.
